REPORTED DEVELOPMENT

At the Fortune AIQ Summit, Bank of America’s chief technology and information officer described selecting technology by examining customer needs and the underlying processes before choosing AI.

The account says that deterministic rules or conventional software can be preferable for some tasks. It also describes model routing, token-cost management and a preference for human-supervised agents.

Fortune reported an executive estimate of roughly USD 400 million in costs across about 140 AI use cases and USD 800 million in benefits. These are attributed executive claims, not independently audited net ROI, and should not be treated as industry benchmarks.

WHY IT MATTERS TO THE MARKET

A disciplined investment decision compares AI with simpler alternatives and includes integration, human review and operating cost. Selection based on task economics is more informative than presuming that every workflow needs an autonomous agent.
