REPORTED DEVELOPMENT
Microsoft published its 2026 Digital Defense Report, addressing the changing enterprise security environment as AI agents interact with applications, data, APIs and external systems.
The report highlights workload and agent identities, authorisation, agent-to-agent authentication, attribution and revocation alongside familiar risks such as prompt injection, data exposure and software vulnerabilities.
The recommended control principles include least privilege, monitoring, testing, data protection and secure development. The report does not imply that every AI-enabled enterprise has experienced an incident.
WHY IT MATTERS TO THE MARKET
Security governance must extend from models to the identities, tools and data access that enable real actions. These controls affect both risk exposure and total operating cost of AI adoption.
