REPORTED DEVELOPMENT

Shopify introduced Canvas, a workspace where merchants can see an entire storefront while Sidekick works on actual theme files, checks code and reviews screenshots before merchant acceptance.

At launch, Shopify identified compatibility limits involving third-party Theme Store themes, Markets, translations, app blocks or embeds and theme-update continuity. Its documentation describes the limitations of themes modified through Canvas.

The feature announcement does not demonstrate a measured increase in conversions or net operating savings for merchants.

WHY IT MATTERS TO THE MARKET

AI-assisted storefront authoring can reduce friction in development, but lifecycle support, localisation, application compatibility, quality assurance and future maintenance still affect the real commercial case.
