Workday announced a definitive agreement to acquire C1.ai, a platform focused on identity and access management for people and AI agents across enterprise applications.
The proposed combination is intended to link agent registration, contextual application permissions, access changes and revocation to business identity workflows. The acquisition had not closed at the announcement date; Workday expects completion in the fourth quarter of its fiscal year 2027, subject to closing conditions.
The announcement does not establish that the planned integrations are already generally available or operating in customer environments.

As AI agents gain access to finance, HR, CRM and enterprise tools, identity lifecycle, delegated authority and rapid permission revocation become central procurement and control questions. An announced acquisition is not evidence of an implemented governance outcome.
