Cohere released Rerank 5 with Context Focus, identifying relevant passages within documents and returning their locations and relevance scores. Pro targets complex specialist searches; Fast targets high-volume applications and agents. Both support over 100 languages and 32,768-token context. Updating does not necessarily require re-indexing documents.
Cohere says Context Focus is less suitable for broad summaries and can segment tables, forms and code imperfectly. Documentation explicitly identifies availability through the Cohere API; identical delivery-channel implementations should not be assumed.
Across six producer deep-research benchmarks, Cohere reports 41% fewer tokens and accuracy improving from 39% to 52%. These are producer results, not independent validation.
WHY IT MATTERS TO THE MARKET
Selecting relevant passages can reduce processing costs, but must preserve completeness, provenance and interpretation of original sources. Potential savings are not demonstrated economic ROI.
