REPORTED DEVELOPMENT

SAP's official publication of 26 October 2026 documents three developments in its enterprise AI offering.

Product Design, Manufacturing and Supply Chain Planning Assistants address product changes, bills of materials, production-data preparation, order progress and the allocation of inventory investment. General availability proceeds in phases rather than simultaneously for all customers.

Joule Studio distinguishes agents from skills commercially. The agent builder is listed as free until December 2026, after which it becomes a premium AI feature. The skill builder remains a base AI feature. This distinction matters when modelling total usage cost, but does not establish that the price changed on 26 October.

SAP also reports 45,000 cloud customers using SAP AI. This does not identify how many use each assistant or demonstrate independently measured economic outcomes. Performance-improvement percentages presented by SAP are manufacturer estimates rather than independently verified ROI; equivalent results in luxury manufacturing have not been established.

WHY IT MATTERS TO THE MARKET

Competition is moving towards agents specialised in industrial processes: product data, materials, planning, operational exceptions and authorised decisions. Base licences, premium features, actual tenant availability, AI consumption and demonstrated operating outcomes need to remain distinguishable.

The installed enterprise-AI market is expanding, but it cannot be equated with adoption of SAP's newly announced industrial assistants.

WHAT THE DATA SUGGESTS

Enterprise exposure to AI tools supports the relevance of industrial assistants, while differentiated builder entitlements make adoption economics more important. Procurement must isolate active assistant usage, premium consumption and measurable outcomes.

INTERPRETATION BOUNDARY

Eurostat is a 2025 EU enterprise survey; SAP's 45,000 figure is a vendor-reported global customer count. Their denominators, geographies and product definitions differ. Neither is a measured adoption rate for the new assistants.
